Address Validation

Iraca can verify a US shipping address against USPS delivery data before you buy a label. Catching a typo or missing unit number now avoids a returned package later.

Address validation is advisory — you can always save an address as-is even if the validator flags it.

Where it appears

A Validate Address button appears on every address form that affects shipping:

  • Order ship-to — the Edit Ship-To dialog on an order's detail page.
  • New Order — new customer — when you enter a customer inline during order creation.
  • Shipping preset — the ship-from address on your preset in Shipping Settings.

How to use it

Fill in the address fields, then choose Validate Address. Iraca checks the address and shows one of three results:

Address verified (green) — USPS confirms the address as deliverable. No action needed.

Suggested correction (blue) — USPS found the address but the standardized form differs from what you entered — for example, a ZIP+4 was added, an abbreviation was expanded, or a street number was corrected. The corrected address is shown. You can:

  • Use this address — applies the USPS-standardized version to your form fields.
  • Keep mine — dismisses the suggestion and keeps what you entered.

May not be deliverable (amber) — USPS could not confirm the address. This could mean the street doesn't exist in that ZIP, a unit number is missing, or the address is in a rural area not in USPS's database. You can Continue anyway and save it regardless.

What happens if USPS is unavailable?

Iraca automatically falls back to EasyPost's address verification. If both are unavailable, the widget is silent — you won't see an error, and your address is saved normally.

Non-US addresses are skipped silently; the button will still appear but the result will simply confirm that validation isn't available.

Notes

  • Validation clears automatically when you change the street, city, state, or ZIP — so you can re-validate after making a correction.
  • Running validation does not save your address — it's just a check. Use the form's Save button when you're ready.
